Talk by Ian Tennant regarding Phillip Larkin
PHILIP ARTHUR LARKIN (1922 to 1985)
Philip Larkin was a writer, poet, librarian and jazz critic. This talk will cover his life and work with an exploration of his professional and personal life and attitudes which contain quite a number of surprises. The talk will be interspersed with readings from his poetry which will illustrate his thinking and skill with words. Larkin was offered the position of Poet Laureate in 1984 but he refused it. He is commonly referred to as “England’s other Poet Laureate“. In 2008, well after his death, he was named by The Times as Britain’s greatest post-war writer.
